Namaste,
These days I have been thinking a lot about modern yoga. I used to teach a lot of classes. The striking thing is that modern yoga is LEG Postures Yoga. Modern Yoga revoloves around a few postures like upward dog, downward dog, warrior sequences and and sometimes triangles. These days hardly find any classical asanas in classes. The other striking thins is that no teacher wants to give much time for relaxation. They dont realise that they are doing violence to the students body. Activating the the body highly by all vinysas and leaving the students in higly activated pingala state. Though they may not expereince the bad effect of these classes in a shorter period, m sure it will have its say eventually. You tend to develop more injuries, restlessness, prone to ageing and all other over sympethetic activation problems
Modern yoga is flourished in west in the biginning and and is spreading all over the world and even in India. It is basically a replacement for physical exercises, still including some good aspects of yoga and poeple get highly benefited out of this, no doubt. It is not easy to practice traditional yoga as it is very slow. Poeple need to have more settled mind to do that yoga...a kind of boring to unsettled mind. I remember the time i went to yoga classes in Kerala. It is very slow. I used to expect new yoga postures in each class. But the teacher sometimes give a new posture or sometimes not. If the teacher see us sweating, then he will slow down the class and in modern yoga if the teacher didnt see you sweating they speed up the class.
It is good to have yoga in its new shape , form and flow and I really enjoy attending or teaching some of the classes. Yoga gives you flexibility and yoga itself is flexible. You can have your own way of doing yoga and that is fine and good as long as it is not giving any injury to the practitioner.
But what I wish is if the teacher could have a little more sensitive to direct the students to get connect with their body and breadh and give some moments of silence and a deep relaxation part at the end.
Thanks a lot
See you again here

Yoga in my view
Blessed Self,
Namaste!
The way i see things today and the way a saw things yesterday is not same. The way i will see things tomorow may not be same too. What ever i jot down here is what i think right at this moment for me...I dont claim the originality of the writings though you may find different views which you never heard. What i find truth may not be a truth for you. It depends on each of us experience and state of evolution. I dont expect others to agree with my views
Is there anything which i really value in life is Yoga. The yoga in its complete sense. Yoga is the spiritual science- the science of happiness. It is the one and the only science which systematically lead you to the highest state of human potential...the complete freedom..to the bliss
